Village hit by electrical power surge


Houses in a rural Northumberland village were impacted by an electrical energy surge.


Residents in Kielder Village got an sudden awakening on Tuesday at all over five.30am as a malfunction in the energy supply generated plugged-in gear to burn, filling their properties with smoke.


The fault has left many households hundreds of lbs out of pocket as most properties in the compact local community were left with wrecked appliances, such as washing machines, freezers, televisions, computer systems and mobile phones.


Julie Nichol, who lives with husband Alan and six-year-previous daughter Lucy, reported: "It was frightening when it took place because what it sounded like was gunfire.


"Our mobile phones and laptop computer chargers melted and the room filled with smoke.


"Other items had been ssing and popping and my husband had to go spherical switching all sorts of things off."


NEDL's parent small business CE Electrical reported: "We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience prompted and thank them for their patience.
